My Little Hobgoblins ALL!

jack_skellington_pumpkin_stencilHAPPY OCTOBER!!!!

One of my very favourite times of year! A MAGICAL month, where black cats hiss at a waning moon, and toothless pumpkins sit freshly craved, costumed children don leaf-lined streets, sacks in hand eager to collect Candy Mountains.

It’s a SPOOKY time, a ghoulish time; where coffins spit out the papery dead, jabberwocky’s prowl, werewolves howl, hags on broomsticks steal the young and eerie fog smothers whole towns.

“SCREAM!” (Hair-raising and shrill)

Your heart pounds and your palms sweat, a prickly sensation on your neck? What is it?

“FEAR!” (Hushed and echoed)

A VOICE performers worst enemy!

“We fear the thing we want the most” Robert Anthony

There is an ever-constant demand we voicers place on ourselves; to be ‘perfect’, to ‘get it right’, offer ‘the best’. But to discover our best performance, our truth, our authentic brand in voice, we must do something that we ultimately FEAR more than death-RISK FAILURE!

“Love is what we were born with. Fear is what we learned here” Marianne Williamson

We would rather tow the party line, blend in, be more like the ‘norm’-what we know-the ‘announce’ crowd, then RISK discovering our unique, original ‘OPINION’ or truthful storyteller. The party line can read very nicely, but they don’t speak with us. They are not inclusive, engaging or honest. Not really. It must cost you something to reach your audience and respond with them! Unfortunately, our world cannot express LOVE or JOY. We’ve been taught to sit down, speak when spoken to, don’t have an opinion. You mustn’t laugh or they’ll think you’re crazy, drunk or unprofessional. JOY and LOVE are limitless wells available for us to draw from at any time but we won’t choose to open this option when expressing for FEAR of judgement.

“Do what you fear and fear disappears” David Joseph Schwarts

Express an authentic thought when sharing ideas with your listener. You are always in a DIALOGUE, even though the listener’s responses are not written on the page. It is your job to RISK going beyond the copy in an effort to help your listeners. Talk ‘with’ them, not ‘at’ them. Yes, we FEAR not delivering the message in a truthful, inclusive and passionate way.

“We are afraid of the enormity of the possible” Emile M. Cioran

We must PLAY! Let go of the predetermined idea’s regarding the written word. The words are secondary, how you ‘express’ them is of the utmost importance. The script is a map. The landscape is YOU! Create all the colours of the autumn leaves, crazy costumes, candied treats of October!

“Fear is just excitement without the breath” Robert Heller

Breathe life into the static, dead reads where you are afraid to bring a sense of play, humour, joy, love and RISK to the microphone. Remember, it is your ultimate job to HELP the listener, learn, know, and believe in the MAGIC of communication.

“FEAR is static and prevents me from hearing myself” Samuel Butler

If YOU can’t hear your truth, in expression and authentic communication, then your listener can’t either and that is a HORROR story for any VOICER! Our task is to reach beyond the veil of computer driven, digital, social media expression and actually REACH our fellows in community of conversation. We are losing our ability to authentically talk to each other. RISK: reaching me, helping me, allaying my FEARS.

“The first duty of man is to conquer FEAR; he must get rid of it, we cannot ACT till then” Thomas Carlyle

We must overcome that which stands in the way of us fulfilling our greatest dreams. Our ego, along with our personal critic, has a heyday wrecking havoc on our psyches, regarding expectation and outcome of performance. We must tackle unknown, or undiscovered, possibilities within our communicative arsenal and ourselves. It is limitless and must not be stifled.

“FEAR stifles our thinking and actions. It creates indecisiveness that results in stagnation. I have known talented people who procrastinate indefinitely rather than risk failure. Lost opportunities cause erosion of confidence, and the downward spiral begins” Charles Stanley

Don’t dig yourself a grave that even the playful celebrations of Halloween can’t get you out of. Put on a mask, dress up and change whom you think you are.

“Clothes make a statement. Costumes tell a story” Mason Clooney

Play with the possibility of being broader than you currently believe possible. Push your boundaries. RISK discovery of expression, through varied mental, physical, emotional, spiritual ACTIONS in the VOICE. Carve smiles in a thousand pumpkins and TRICK yourself with the unlimited amount of TREATS you can bring to the microphone. It will be SPOOKY, just how hair-raisingly surprising your storytelling skills are, once you RISK everything and tackle the FEAR of performance. Give ALL of you to the microphone, your sweet VOICE carries unlimited messages and your fellows get to reap the benefits.

“Nothing on earth so beautiful as the final haul on Halloween Night” Steve Almond

So go out there my little fiends, recognize the child in every one of us who is still a trick-or-treater looking for a brightly lit porch. We are not afraid to laugh with joy, scream with excitement, whisper with glee and exclaim with delight!

“Our deepest FEAR is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest FEAR is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our LIGHT, not our darkness that most frightens us” Marianne Williamson

There is a sacred HORROR about everything grand. YOU are powerful storytellers with the lofty task of reaching your fellows through authentic, communicative expression and changing the vibration of the planet.

Be candles. Burn brightly, inside smiling pumpkins. Mark the doors to everyone’s houses. Help lead the gaspers and gigglers, towards the many treats that lie waiting beyond your smiling faces. Howl at the moon in celebration my VOICERS and Live the DREAM!

“When black cats prowl and

Pumpkins gleam

May LUCK be yours on Halloween”
